Extra! Extra! Read all about it!..Lately I've been worrying about, among other things, my health. Before this, my only form of health conciousness was the cutting of excess fat on steaks (not all the fat, of course. Just the fat that I couldn't bear to swallow anymore). Other than that, if it was on a plate, I'd eat it.Oh but I've changed my ways. I have revamped my lifestyle. No more greasy burgers and fries, no more sucking on bars of butter, no more licking the fat drip tray on my George Foreman. (Just kidding, I don't do the latter two. Only sometimes....ok ok I really don't...ok maybe...na I'm kidding. Ok it's margerine and it's the Showtime Rotissire Grill ha! jk!).The driving force behind this change is my fear of death. That's right...death. My family has a horrible history of high holesterol...I mean...cholesterol. It comes from my mother's side of the family. Us Pintongs (my mom's maiden name) are all the same- tall, skinny, bald, with high cholesterol. (And considering I was blessed with hair, I figure my luck's run out and that I'm pretty much a sure shot for high cholesterol. I mean, how lucky can one person be, right? Hair and low cholesterol? Get outta town!) So pretty much what I fear is that at the ripe old age of 28, I'll get a heart-attack and die. Overreacting, you say? My brother, who's only 33, is already on Lipitor, the cholesterol lowering drug. 33! Can you beleive that? And with the way I eat, I'm pretty sure I'm on the fast track towards Lipitor Lane.Anyway, the first step I took in revamping my life was doing away with my daily morning bagel with cream cheese, replacing it with a nice hearty bowl of instant Quaker Oats Oatmeal. What's great about oatmeal is that it tastes great and it is one of the best things to eat if you want to lower your cholesterol! After this I'm going to exercise more, workout, start running a couple days a week, play basketball...you know, those things I always say I'm going to do but never do?*****Caleb Carr, one of my favorite authors, has finally come out with a new book, "The Italian Secretary". Unfortunately this isn't the third installment of the "Alienest" series which I loved, but a continuation of another series of books that I really loved as a kid- the Sherlock Holmes stories!! When I read this in the Times I almost flipped out. My favorite author writing about my favorite detective? Get outta town! It's time to ditch the Ipod for a while and start tearing through my reading list again...*****Pierre = Environmentalist?I love nature. I love reading about the environment. I love watching the Discovery Channel or those PBS nature shows. When I see a cardinal fly by, my heart skips a beat. When I hear a woodpecker pecking away, I sit and listen. When I had a chance to take a walk in the Everglades, I was the first one in. When the second largest moth in North America found itself in my basement, I was fascinated and took pictures.Maybe I should've went to the University of Hawaii and majored in Marine Biology. How cool would that've been? When I'm not swimming with dolphins, I'll relax on the beach, ride a few choice waves on my surfboard, tan, and sip coconut juice from an actual coconut...then it's back to swimming with the dolphins. I'm sure all they do in Marine Biology is swim with dolphins, right?*****HARRY POTTER IV TEASER IS UP!*****End
