...

I've succumbed to Gmail. Why? Not because I need the 1GB of space and not because I'm in need of an email address (I have 5 including this one). I joined just because I could. I joined because Google is "cool". Since I heard that opening a Gmail account was on an invite-only basis, I just had to have one. If you're "cool", you'll be tapped. Just like if you're "cool", you wear the LiveStrong yellow wristbands made by Nike (I have one). All I want out of life is to be "cool". Why do I succumb to all these little fads and gimmicks? Because that's what they all are...gimmicks. Why? Sad, isn't it? What's even more sad was that I didn't even get invited to get Gmail. I found out that if you're a member of blogger.com, you automatically have rights to sign up for Gmail. The fact that Gmail is giving itself away through blogger makes it not "cool" anymore. Just like how the LiveStrong wristband isn't "cool" anymore since Lance won the Tour. If something's "cool", chances are it'll be so "uncool" very soon...

I read my own blog a lot. I dont know why, but I just do. Maybe it's because I just adore the way I write. That could be it. Gee whiz that's sad. But every once in a while I'll sift through my blog archives just to read some of things I wrote. A trip down memory lane, if you will. So I randomly selected the month of May 2002 and came across an entry written on May 9th entitled "Clash of the BoyBand Titans". Get this- I had written an entire essay on the ongoing boyband battle between Backstreet Boys and *N Sync at the time. What was I thinking? And this wasn't just a short blurb on which band I liked better and why, this was a fairly in depth analysis (song by song) of who was better. So if any of you ever read that entry, let me say that I will not blame you for questioning your friendship with me.

Work sucks sometimes. Not only am I forced to do the same thing every single day, but work has successfully wiped out almost all the free time I used to revel in. Take the summer for example. In years past, the summer meant sun, the beach, playing outside, and most importantly, it meant that there was no school to worry about, not stress, and absolute free time. Summer meant 2 or 4 months of freedom to do whatever the hell you please. It doesn't mean any of those things anymore. Summer has joined the ranks of the other winter months, plagued by the monotony of work and school. Complete freedom has shrank to 8 weekends where you have to try to fit all 2 months worth of summer activites into those 16 days. Of course I realize this 3/4 the way through the summer when it's too late to recapture any of that Summer-ness. How freakin' sad.
