The beginning of the end.
Today is day one of my last three days here in Ann Arbor. I know all two of you who read my blog (bless your loyalty!!) are probably bored of all this feel-sorry-sad-nostalgic crap. But hey, leaving a place you called home for 4 years isn't the easiest thing in the world. And to think, I used to cringe everytime I called Michigan "home" by accident.
Anyway, today is day one of three. My girl Liz is leaving in about four hours, and in three days time, it'll be my time to say goodbye.
Funny thing, I went to Harvest Sunday Service today. Am I Christian? Not in the slightest. Why did I go? As the resident Buddhist of Ann Arbor, I've been known to visit the Church every once in a while to observe their "subculture"- and to say "Hi" to all my Harvest friends. But today, I went to say goodbye. *sniff sniff* After an all-nighter of DDT's (Deep Dark Talks...for those who don't know), I got home just in time to head out to Sunday Service. I admit, staying awake through all the acronyms and digressions was a bit IMPOSSIBLE, but I did manage to stay awake for most of it. Afterwards during "fellowship", I chatted with a bunch of old friends, shared some memories, and yes, sad my goodbyes. How sad.
Now all I can do is try to cope with the reality that I'm actually leaving. To be honest, I'm sucking at it. Right before service, I stopped by "The Vatican". For those not in the know, the Vatican was my apartment all of my junior year and spring term 2002, although it never got the name until that spring. So I drove into the back lot, parked, and walked around, feeling the familiar gravel under my shoes and hearing the familiar leaves rustle in the wind. I made my way to the window of apartment #2 and looked inside. What I found was that it looked NOTHING like the apartment I used to live in. But under all the new curtains and decorations made by the current residents, I recognized that same brown carpet where Bishop (my turtle) would crawl, the same walls where Pope (our resident carpenter ant) would wander, and the same couches where Babbs, Steve, and I would crash everyday.
(Back in the present time)
So I've been doing a lot of reminiscing these past few days- sue me! To top it all off, I've been reading my blogs from last spring too. BOY I'm glad I wrote entries back then, it's nice to reread them after a long period of time. Vatican Parties, Bishop, Pope, spoiled frapuccinos, firecrackers, Rounders, drinking games, NBA playoffs, constant More Than Words on the guitar, Cedar Point, Sunday Funday, and failed Spider-Man night. AHHHHHHHhhhhhh the memories *large grin on face*
