funKtion. what.
In an email I welcomed funKtion's two newest members: Stephon Procter and Kevin Nguyen. Here is the email i wrote:
Hello,
As the Southeast Asian Representative of funKtion, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you, Stephon and Kevin, into the funKtion family. "You have no idea what you've gotten yourselves into" and hopefully it changes your life as much as it changed mine...for the better, of course. You've joined a corporation that crosses cultures, tears down boundaries, and extends from New York City to San Diego and even Hong Kong. Our fans span the world.
You will be expected to hangout after practice (Jimmy John's, Charley's, etc.), participate in various festive gatherings (potlucks, bbqs, parties, etc.), and observe spiritual holidays (Manila Mondays).
You will no longer be called by your given name. Rather, you will be dubbed a new name, given to you by another member of the group for reasons that will be apparent at the time it is given.
Finally, you will be required to uphold all the things funKtion exists for- diversity, community, friendship, and of course, tearing it up at every single performance like only funKtion knows how.
Remember, this is not a game. It never was, and it never will be. To achieve these things mentioned above, it takes heart, dedication, responsibility, and perseverence. Stick to these four things and the sky's the limit.
