-The Hawk Story-

(a true story)

While Charlie and I were driving through the woods on our way up to Binghamton, NY, our topic of converstion at the time was "Cool Forrest Creatures".....YES....Cool Forrest Creatures. Basically just trying to name cool animals we might find in these woods, like bears, deer, wolves, snakes, moose, and hawks/falcons. Then i turned to Charlie and said, "You know, when I drive to Michigan, I always see hawks just soaring around. Maybe we'll see some flying around while we're driving." Of course we didn't see any.

Fast forward through the fun times spent in Binghamton...to our drive back down to NYC.

On our way back, we were all tired and dillusional from endless nights of fun. Charlie was passing out next to me kinda at the edge of deep sleep and conciousness, and i was struggling to keep my eyes on the road. As I was driving, i got a phone call from Sam. I was talking to sam when out of the corner of my eye I see a fairly large bird, soaring (no flapping) with the finger-like wing tips...it was a HAWK. With one hand on the wheel and the other with the phone I looked up at the hawk with so much excitement and yelled, "Charlie!! Charlie!! Hawk!! Hawk!!" As i'm yelling this and staring up at the hawk, a hand reaches over and HONKS the car horn. HUH?!?

The hand was obviously Charlie's, who thought i said HONK instead of HAWK in his semi-councious state. And becuase i was steering and had the phone in my other hand, he thought something was happening and i needed help HONKING the horn haha. When it happened, it was weird beacuse it took me a couple seconds to register what just happened....like "he honked...i said hawk...ahhhh i see" then i busted out laughing hysterically. We all couldn't stop laughing in the car...so much so that my tears of laughter were making it hard for me to see the road.

Ah yes...fun times. It's a great story when i tell it in person...so i thought i'd try to put it in writing and share it with you all. =)
