To summarize, it seems that when comparing the different singles that have been released by both groups since the beginning of their respective careers, it comes out to a tie. (Keep in mind, this comparison doesn't account for other non-released singles of both groups. Rather, it just focuses on those songs that have been popularized by radio and TV) BUT, there is a definite trend that is forming, and leading the way are Justin and JC. This is even more apparent when comparing their albums. It is undoubted that the BSB's self-entitled debut album dominated that of *N Sync's own self-entitled album. "I Drive Myself Crazy" and "I Want You Back" just couldn't match up against "All I Have to Give" and "I'll Never Break Your Heart." Then came their second albums, "Millenium" by Brian Littrel and company, and "No Strings Attached" by their dancing counterparts. And it was here that *N Sync began to show off their dancing ablilities. Even so, Millenium's "I Want It That Way" dominated the air waves and made it onto VH1's top 100 pop singles, securing BSB's position atop the Top 40 charts, and in young girls' hearts. Then, *N Sync made their move, acquiring the hottest young dance choreographer Wade, and making Justin's relationship with Britney public. Not only was *N Sync a boyband, but it had grown into a Teeny-bopper juggernaut alongside Britney and Wade. The end of the Backstreet Boy's reign was in sight. The nail in the coffin came in the form of BSB's third album, "Black and Blue" With mediocre success with singles like, "Shape of My Heart", a track that sounds remarkebly similar to their old material, it was obvious that the BSB sound was getting old. On the other hand, *N Sync were making even more moves, working with talented artists like Richard Marx (This I Promise You), Lisa "Lefteye" Lopez (Space Cowboy), and the Neptunes and Nelly (Girlfriend), and releasing their much awaited third album "Celebrity". With a new hip hop/r&b flavor to their music, *N Sync was making their mark not only in pop culture, but hip hop culture as well. Aricles in VIBE magazine and and appearance on 106 & Park solidified this movement, of course not without some dissension. With all this on top of the BSB slide into oblivion and even more media exposure (Superbowl Halftime Show, VMA performance with the King of Pop), *N Sync can rightfully claim their stake as the number one boyband in America.

winner: *N Sync

As an out-of-closet Backstreet Boy fan, i can only hope that they do something in an attempt to reclaim their title. But as an ex-*N Sync hater and a dancer, i have to give credit where credit is due and give *N Sync props as performers. With "Girlfriend' on the radio and even with the recent news of the Justin-Britney breakup, it looks like their reign as kings has only begun.

Yes, i have put a lot of thought into this and no i'm not too proud of it. But hey, it makes for an interesting blog, no?

These are my thoughts. Love 'em or hate 'em, these are my thoughts.
