Every morning, I get coffee from the same coffee guy. Waiting on line for my small-regular, I always notice the people in front of me chit-chatting with the guy. They talk about the weather, their kids, the Yankees, everything. Obviously I wasn't the only regular to the small coffee cart in front of 388 Greenwich. When I make it to the guy, no words are excchanged, just four quarters and a coffee, and I'm on my way.
Day after day seeing everybody chitchat with the coffee guy, I start to think to myself, "Why don't I chat with him? He knows who I am, why not?".
The next day I get to the cart and say, "Hey, how's it going?" He responds with a, "Not bad. It's cold." That's it.
And that's how it's been for the past month. "Hey, how's it going", followed by an arbitrary, "Good, it's cold" or "Not bad". There's no, "So how are the neice and nephew?" or "How about them Giants?". I guess you can say I'm a little jealous that our friendship hasn't progressed beyond that. Sad.
