When Pierre met Antheraea Polyphemus

There I was, sitting in my computer chair in my basement, watching Sportscenter. My mom made me noodles for a late dinner and I had just finished eating it. During a commercial break, I decided to bring the dishes back upstairs to the kitchen. Turning the corner into the stairway, I noticed a dark spot on the white wall beside me. I looked up, and there it was...the SECOND LARGEST MOTH IN ALL OF NORTH AMERICA...ANTHERAEA POLYPHEMUS!! (see picture below)

Now of course I didn't know off-hand that it was the second largest moth in North America. All I knew was that there was a big ass moth sitting on my wall. Needless to say I was completely scared. My house has had it's share of stray moths come flying into our house, but this was the mother of all moths. It had a winspans of about 5.5 inches! So after staring at it for about 5 minutes, marvelling at it, I finally decided that I had to catch it and let it go. Using the classic bug catching technique, I took a CD spindle cover, covered the moth with it, then slide a piece of cardboard underneath and thus capturing the beast. That's when I decided I had to take 15 pictures of it haha.

Once I was done, I took it outside and let it fly off into the night.
