Setting: School of Social Work computer lab, a hideaway for those in search of computers and silence. Weather seen through the ceiling windows is gloomy and dreary.
I haven't blogged in a while. Not becuase I had nothing to say, I just didn't have the words to say it. Not because nothing interesting happened, I had to fully absorb the events that did happen. Not because I was lazy, I'm always lazy.
These past two weeks have been insane. And sadly enough, all the insanity has passed.
Dance Mix 2003 was amazing. All the long hours practicing, all the sweat, all the stress, all the cramming, all the yelling, all the planning, all the laughter, all the camraderie, all the bonding, all the adrenaline, and all the crowds/friends/parents cheering made for one of the highlights of my college career. Sure it was great to be in the spotlight one last time, hearing the crowd cheer our names as we ourselves cheered the crowd on, but this past weekend (not trying to sound TOO cheesy) represented something so much deeper than that.
The moment I stepped onto this campus (NORTH campus), I had not one inkling of an idea as to what was in store for me the next four years of my life. "College is where you find yourself- it's where you grow as a person." GROWING SHMOWING...I just wanted to have fun...
It started with APA 101, a small little mentorship program that opened the world of Asian Pacifica American issues and ideas to me. From that point on, I had a new passion. That same year my friend Rollen invited me to audition for a hip hop act that was part of a larger show called Huaren. After learning a couple counts, another passion emerged. With these new found interests, I was able to find others who shared in these same interests. These people started out as acquaintences, grew to become friends, and are now part of my "family". There were times of laughter and joy, hardship and heartache, but in the end it was always worth it.
After dancing at my final Dance Mix and learning of my nomination for the YK Lifetime Achievement Award, I can't help but look back and remember how it all began and the journies taken with the people I've met, to get to where I am now as a graduating senior. Without these people, no shows could've been performed, no events could've been planned, no parties could've been thrown, and no memories could've been made.
I know I'm rambling and these words definitely don't capture what I'm trying to say at all, so let me just put it this way...
To everyone who shared in my experience here at the University, who stayed up late nights to talk to me, who shared some smiles and some laughs with me, and everyone who so willingly let me be a part of their lives...Thank You.
