Before i forget to blog about this, i'm going to tell you about one of the greatest weekends of my life.

The two weeks prior to the weekend of the 29th were probably my most trying two weeks in my life. Schoolwork was getting harder, and so were my funKtion practices. Study + funKtion = No sleep.

March 29th- Dance Mix 2002. If you haven't heard, Dance Mix is a dance show put on by university students, showcasing the talents of many of the dance groups here on campus and other schools. The groups included funKtion, Dance2XS (coed hip hop), Boomshaka (stomp-ish from Northwestern), Dance2XS- UofI, Impact (jazz/ballet/tap), Rhythm (tap), Indigo (Jazz/hip hop/ballet), and GotSoul?

GotSoul? is a group of alumni that came back to campus JUST to dance at Dance Mix. These alumni are actually alumni of funKtion, Dance2XS, and past legendary hip hop acts such as GrooveCulture. Basically, these guys built 2XS and funKtion into what they are today. What am i talking about? They STARTED funKtion and 2XS on this campus!! Not only do we as current dancers look up to them as role models, but they're our good friends as well. So you could just imagine what it was like to see them and practice with them again. The LOVE was ridiculous, even between old school alumni and new members of 2XS and funKtion. Long, hard practices were followed by trips to Pizza House where we'd run 30+ deep and take over the entire upper level....craziness.

The love from all the alumni that came back was beautiful, but receiving the news that my parents were coming for the show was insanity. I invited my parents to come out to Michigan to watch the show, not really expecting to come since i had given them such short notice. But somehow my parents pulled some strings at work and were able to make it. Let me tell you, there's NOTHING like dancing in a show and knowing that your parents are watching you in the crowd. Having them there topped off a truly beautiful experience that night of the 29th.

Dance MIx was a GREAT SHOW...not an understatement. We practiced hard and we received our just reward...a great performance. We received so much love from the crowd after the show and even now, a week later.

I just want to tell all my DANCERS that i love you. Thank you for making last weekend such an amazing experience. The show was great, but all the time we spent together before, during, and after the show meant so much more. Let's hope that what we have never dies.

That weekend will go down as one of the greatest nights of my college career.
